So my son will be heading to SERE training in about 3 weeks, I am worried for him just not knowing what to expect.

Doug, he'll be fine. My son did SERE and he came out alive! Just a few bumps and bruises and a little cold, but he came out ok. The guys in charge watch out for them pretty well and won't let anything happen to them.
