She Is Being Sent Home!

We received the dreaded phone call yesterday that my Granddaughter will be coming home form Boot Camp.  She is having problems with her tonsils and severe pains in her calves.  She will find out today if she has a foot fracture.  Needless to say, she is devastated.  I did get to speak with her and she told me that she was told that when she gets home, have her tonsils removed and seek the assistance of a Personal Trainer to work on her calf problem.  If she can overcome this problem and can fully participate in the physical aspects of Boot Camp, she can re-enlist.  She has indicated that she will be dedicating herself to this.

This leaves me with a couple of questions.

  1. After being sworn in, and at Great Lakes, why is she being sent home because of a medical procedure that can be performed there?

  1. I have read situations where Recruits given Personal Trainers at Boot Camp to help them through the physical portion of their training.

  1. If she follows these instructions, is there a way for her to be re-tested so that she will know if she has improved sufficiently to complete Boot Camp?

  1. Does anyone out there have any experience with Recruits returning home, addressing the issues on their Medical Discharge and returning?

I realize that I may not have all the facts straight, but as of now, this is what I know.

Any help and/or advice will be greatly appreciated!

    Robert,

This is scuttlebutt drible, it's CVN not AC carrier for starters.  It may help to think before you type.

Better to be screwed by the Navy early into this dedication instead of near 9 years (over 6 years on AC carrier) and being denighed re-enlistment due to a schmuck in the oval office cutting back our defenses! Was a proud navy dad...now just pissed off. Took my flag down in a rage. People, "sailors of the year" are getting kicked out to not only reduce the sailor count but also reduce the number of retiree's. Dedication to the navy means nothing. So, she should look into driving the food wagon for those on welfare...that is what our president is surviving on. Sad day for our sailors who haven't a future. Just wait, they all will be looking for a civilian job soon...maybe hostess!

Tony...I'm so sorry to hear of her troubles! She must be so disappointed....I hope that everything works out for her in time and that she can re-enlist! I wish her the best of luck!

  • read through the posts in the Ship 5 group at : http://www.navydads.com/group/ship5formerlyship17

I could give you all kinds of false words of hope here, but in reality- the Navy has too little money and too many sailors.  You can draw your conclusions about what that means for sailors with any kind of issue at bootcamp.  Check her re-enlistment codes (more in the Ship 5 group) and that will tell you her chances of re-enlistment and other information you should have.  You can fight but in reality that will do virtually nothing but get you frustrated.
