Does anyone else have a son or daughter in this group? Our son left on Feb. 4 and we haven't gotten our first letter from him yet.

We got our phone call yesterday and it couldn't have come at a better time. We were just arriving at my sister's house for a birthday dinner for our mother when he called. So 9 of us got to talk to him on speaker instead of just his mom, dad and sister. And he got to talk for about a half hour. Awesome day!
My son Arthur is training in 811. Boot has changed a lot since my time. I salute the young recruits, you fathers of these new sailors, and those who are Vets.
Same here I got a surprise call today seems things are getting better. Sounds like 811 is starting to come together...
Ya got one Friday but got a call today my son is doing good.

We received our first letters today! (2 of them written two days apart in the same envelope) Really made our day to hear from him and that he's handling things well. He said they were told early on that they hadn't earned the right to mail yet so I guess that's part of the deal. Said they had 3 of the 4 toughest RDCs there, the ones who work with SEAL contracts. Talked about the 800 divisions being held to much higher standards. Anyway, I hope your family hears from your son too. It was a huge relief to finally get that letter.
My son ships out Saturday so we will have him Friday after PIR then spend Saturday at the airport.
