Finally got some mail from our daughter Mirissa, she says boot camp is "a piece of cake", so it sounds like she's doing well. She also states she has been assigned as the Mail Petty Officer for Division 005. No phone call, but maybe, maybe not soon.
Robert I talked to Ashleigh's mom this evening and she said she got two letters today , the newest one was date 9/28. Hope I get one here pretty quick. Keep your head high and all is good.
Has anyone with Ship 14 Division 005 gotten a letter other than the form letter with the recruits address and other information. We haven't heard anything other than that and the phone call late on the 17th. Just wondering if anyone had heard. I know that at this point "no news, is good news" hopefully.
at the conclusion of Battle Stations 21, which is the final "test" for all recruits, the Navy holds a "capping ceremony" where all the recuits take off their RECRUIT ball cap and put on offical NAVY ball cap.....at that moment they are no longer recruits and are considered SAILORS in the US Navy. The new sailors get to make a call home and those are the tradtional words spoken: "I'm A Sailor"......
After your SR completes Battle Stations, there is a "capping" ceremony when they trade their Recruit caps for that of the US Navy. You will get a call proclaiming that "I am a US Sailor!" It is the unofficial completion of Basic...
Hey Matt, my son arrived on 9/4 with a PIR date of 11/1 and we have spoken with on 9/14 and 9/26. I know of others that have received 3 calls in that same time frame. As Tom said, it really is up to the RDC's. My son advised that his 2nd call was probably his last until the "I'm a Sailor" call. No news is good news. There are a couple links on this website that will give you a week by week overview of activities and one that provides a general day by day.
The only other call that you can count on is the "I'm a Sailor" call. It is up to the RDC's as to whether or not there is an additional call in between...based upon Division performance!
