My son is joining the Navy. He has been a varsity wrestler four years in high school. Although the "pros" for joining the Navy were far greater, the one "con" that really stung was that he would not have an opportunity to wrestle in college.
It would mean a lot to my son if he could continue wrestling if even informally, but preferably in a somewhat organized rec league. His recruiter mentioned that there are intramural clubs for a number of sports, and that wrestling is often one of them. However, he wasn't too firm with his assurance and couldn't point us to anything that would confirm that. He then said, "if something isn't already available, and you can find enough people interested, you'll definitely be supported in arranging something."
Can any of you give me the real scoop on intramural sports in the Navy? Are they prevalent? If so, is wrestling often one of them, and what is the basic structure?
Thanks!

As of Friday it might be lucky if they get paid much less have time for sports...........and remember that typically after A-school they head to the fleet for sea duty....trust me, there's no time for anything but duty when at sea
