Step #1- BREATHE!

I have been reading lots of posts from dad's who have kids that just left for boot camp. I too am one of those dads as my daughter left last Wednesday to start her adventure. Have we heard anything other than the last phone call regarding what company she is in or when her PIR date is yet? Nope. Am I worried? Nope. Cuz I know that right now, she is in what we called "R&O" (Receiving and Outfitting) back in my day (1978) where you are getting shots, classified, taking test, filling out mountains of forms, getting your buzz cut, getting your initial issue of uniforms, having people yell at you for something you may or may not of done, doing the swim test, etc, etc, etc. So I know she's busy. And I know it's all a blurr for her until she gets out of R&O and assigned to a company/ship.

And I also know she is safely in good hands.

So please, fellow dads, be cool- your kids are alright. When you don't hear from them longer than 30 days when they are deployed, then you can worry! :)

So chill, everybody. The kid you knew is becoming a sailor in the greatest Navy in the world- it takes time!

  • slight correction the above posting- the last call just told me she was safely at RTC. I still don't have her ship/company number, but again, I am not worried. She's in great hands!
