Swim Quals fail!!

Wow, I just received "The phone call", that my son won't graduate with his ship mate's, he failed his swimming, I don't even know what he failed, I sat down and wrote him a letter as soon as possiable, telling him to dig in, get pissed, and kick swimmings butt. I contacted his recuriter, he is going to contact the RDC, and see if he can speak with my son, find some details, and offer some support...man, I hate not knowing, but I understand the Military way, I just hope they won't discharge him for something so stupid, he has scored high on all other testing, it just that swimming has his number right now....tough days ahead.

  • Randy,

Very happy to hear your son will be able to continue to serve. Particullarly on submarines. I did 21 years in the Silent Service. My son passed everything so far, he is in week 4 almost 5. His PIR is 30 Oct. No, he is not going subs, he is advanced electronics, either an FC or ET.

Also, the SS on the LS does not come until he completes submarine qualifications on his first boat. He will have a designator of SU, submarines unqualified after he completes Sub School, which will be after his A school. Please pass on my best wishes and thank him for serving.

    Good luck,
    Randy
  • Good news Randy. I am glad they will let him stay. It would have been a shame to see someone who really wants to serve his country be denied. Tell your son I am cheering him on from here . I wish him all the best. Alex

Howdy Alex, I have received some more info, My son has been move to ship#6, which is a holding area, until he passes his swimming, he's not a S.E.A.L., his "A" School is for the new rate of LS, logistic specialist (sp), with an SS tagged onto that, which stands for Submarine Service, thus LS/SS, no more new SK's, or PC's, they have combined to form LS.
He will remain there until he passes..so thats good news..its just tuff times for him right now, I too was a boot once, and I know from my passed, he is really busy right now...lol

  • Was your son in the SEAL program ? If he was then he had to do the PST several times before they let him go in. My son is in the SEAL program and he had to do the PST every 2 weeks( swim, run, sit ups, pull ups, and push ups) and he had to score in a certain range or they would not let him go. Maybe they will let him retest the swim. I hope so. They shouldn't discharge him. If they do that just isn't right. I hope for the best for your son.
    Alex
