Thank you and misc questions

Hi...thank you for the responses I've had to questions thus far.  I appreciate it!

Annnnnnnnd.....a couple more questions.

Shipping stuff?  I'm in Minnesota, my son is on his way to Bahrain.  How do I ship care packages, letters, cards, etc., to him?  Does they go to a military mail carrier in the US first?  And how long should I expect packages and mail to take for delivery to Bahrain?

Also, phone calls, texts and such.  Are there different cell plans overseas for him to choose? He is with Verizon now.  I talked with Verizon a week ago, and they have very scary pricey plans.

Thanks for your help in advance.  :-)

  • Your best bet will be to rely on internet type of communication, skype, viber, imessgage and the like.  You should have no problems, your only issue will be the timing of your calls relative to the time zone in bahrain.

  • I assume once he is there and even in his travels he will have access to wifi from time to time, so using either Facebook messenger or "viber" to place free phone calls and even video calls is a viable way for communication. I have used both extensively when traveling abroad on business to stay in touch with my family.

  • Your son will have an official address I assume- base housing?  Read thru: http://www.navydads.com/group/carepackagesforourtroops

    Would assume 2-3 weeks......

cannot help with the calls....told my sailors not to call while on cruise to save time and money.....
