tiger cruise

Just back from my first tiger cruise. I have a new respect and understanding for what our young men and women do for us every day 24-7. What a tremendous group of warriors. Eating, sleeping and working along side my son for the 8 days was a thrill of a lifetime. To the crew, marines and officers of the USS Boxer, thank you and JOB WELL DONE.

    Sorry the cruise  line did not meet your expectations. Me, I cannot wait to go on a TC. It will be an adventure of a lifetime and I care not if the room temp is not up to my standards, or I have to drink water instead of soda. My son joined to serve his country and not complain about it.

Soda machines that never worked and the very few that did work were completely out of beverages.  I was outraged that our government can't provide a better day to day environment for these sailors who are at sea for six months or more at a time. And, to boot, these conditions were relatively good because they "spruced things up" in anticipation of the tiger arrivals.

    I fully appreciate the fact that soldiers out in the field experience conditions that I could not even comprehend.  I also constantly reminded my son that he did not sign up for a stint with the Ritz Carlton and he should stop his whining.  But, the conditions were awful and I now understand why he hated this deployment.

     

    Nope, I don't think that I will take another Tiger cruise any time soon.

    I was on an LHD that is 850 feet long with harriers and helos. All kinds of air ops and LCAC ops. Lots to watch and do. I can see on a smaller ship without the aircraft, you would run out of things to do other than work along side your sailor and visit the various departments on board. Our MWR rep kept things busy and fun after the PQS tours during the day. Spent alot of time touring the ship and watching flight quarters. I even had the opportunity to work along side my son during the day in between the PQS tours/flight quarters.

    Eight days!!!  Wow...my tiger Cruise was only for two nights and three days.  Frankly that was quite long enough.  I don't think I could have done it for eight days!
