As a veteran, I have the honor of rendering a hand salute as prescribed in the National Defense Authorization Acts of 2008 and 2009. These acts do not authorize the hand salute during certain portions of PIR which I copied from another portion of the website. I assume that I am not authorized to render a hand salute during this portion of PIR.
Arrival Honors to Reviewing Officer/Official Party:
Salutes will always begin with the first note of the Boatswain’s pipe.
In addition to the above, all active duty military are to remain covered at all times inside the PIR facility. I will proudly wear my Vietnam Veteran ball cap upon arrival at Great Lakes and assume it is proper to remain covered during the PIR ceremony.
Any thoughts on my assumptions?
Thanks,
Gary
