  • We got our first letter from my son, Brian (ship 02 div 945).  He says it is SO much tougher than he ever imagined and that the You-Tube videos of boot camp are toned way down.  But he says he's been promoted up to the 900 division which certainly sounds encouraging.  He says he looks forward daily to two things; meals and SLEEP ("ahhh...sleep, Chief").  He says the food is terrific.  As tough as it is, Brian says he is taking it in stride and knows he is better for it.

  • To all,

We finally received three letters from Justin today. He is just starting his 6th week. He said this was the first they were able to send letters. He sounded upbeat.

I hope you all also hear from your sons and daughters. I am really proud of all of them.

  • be clear....TYPICALLY after 3 weeks....NOT guarenteed as the division must earn the right to call....no pattern to days or times -- showing the importance of carrying the cell phone with you all all times!!

  • I've heard that a second phone call comes after about 3 weeks.  Does anyone know on what particular day or approximately at what time that phone call will come?  My wife and I do not want to miss it.  So far, only the form letter with his two sentences at the end are all we have gotten...

  • The 900 divisions perform in their own graduation and 1-3 others. In addition to all of the standard training, they have to practice for PIR with flags/rifles/etc  More is expected of them, with less time to write or phone.

  • My son is also on Ship 2 Div 943.  We have received on call but no letters.  My daughter who went in the same time and is on Ship 12 Div 287 has been sending letters every few days.  I was told by someone who heard from someone etc etc that Ship 2 Div 943 has not been allowed to write to date.

Best to you and your son Roderick.

  • Yes he wrote a few lines on the the form letter. Not much info though. The phone call last week was great.

  • Thanks Steve,

We finally did get a call from our son Justin. He sounded very upbeat. It was good to hear from him.

I wish Travis and your family well in this great NAVY journey.
