Officially, a Family Readiness Group (FRG) is a private, yet closely affiliated organization that operates under the provisions of OPNAVINST 1754.5B, Family Readiness Groups; it is comprised of family members, Sailors and civilians associated with the command who support the flow of information, provide practical tools for adjusting to all aspects of Navy life, and serve as a link between the command and Sailors’ families.
The FRG’s purpose is to provide opportunities for members to meet and communicate in order to alleviate problems and better cope with common issues, such as deployments and personal crises, as well as to welcome and mentor each other and celebrate the unique Navy lifestyle.
In plain terms, if you are a command member, a loved one of same, or a member of the greater military or civilian community with a vested interest, your command FRG is an organization for you! FRG leaders and members work closely with the command ombudsman.
Traditionally for security purposes, for family members of Sailors in general, they have to be accepted into an FRG by the command via the command ombudsman.
