Women on Ships

Hi and I hope you all forgive my ignorance for this seemingly simple question:

The women that serve on board ships, both enlisted and officers, do they have their own quarters seperate to the men or is it all mixed?  Do female officers have their own room they share with other female officers or again is it all mixed?  Is there a maximum number to a room if they have one?  I know about the three tiered bunk sections where everyone sleeps, does that apply to officers as well?  Are the girls in there as well or do they get their own section of three tiered bunks?

I know I'm making this sound like some sort of floating hotel which I realise it's not but I was curious.  Call it watching way too many military shows on TV or something.  How does the sleeping arrangements work as you move up through the different ranks, pay grades etc for both me and women?

Anyway, I was curious and thought I'd ask.  To anyone who replies, THANK YOU for helping clear up the puzzle.  Oh yeah, and how do things work with bathroom facilities?

  • The Navy has separate berthing quarters for males and females.  Enlisted has the three racks per tier arrangement.  Believe the officers have two racks per room...at some point obviously upper rank officers have staterooms with a single rack.  And yes, the Navy provides seperate heads for the sexes.
