Question about squadrons assigned to ships

I'm not sure if this is the proper place for this question but here it goes:  my sailor is currently attending C school.  He is assigned to a squadron that is assigned to a ship already on deployment.  When he completes C school, will he join his squadron on ship or will he await their return on base? 

I can't figure out why he would be attached to a squadron already deployed and not one that is preparing for a future deployment.  It would seem that upon arrival, he will be behind everyone else as far as qualifications and acclimation.  You would think the Navy would want only the most prepared sailors/airmen on deployment. 

He is a little bummed out thinking he has missed the ship and will be stuck on base without a squadron.  He has not been told what the next step will be, I believe he gets his orders in about 2 weeks.   I'd like to hear from anyone who has seen a similar situation.  We are still new at this!

My sons ship was mid way in their deployment we he finished schooling. They flew him to the ship, which was an aircraft carrier. So the cool thing was his last flight from San Diego to his ship was on the flight deck of the Ronald Reagan. I'm sure not to many Sailors enter this way. Some are sent to catch the fleet and some wait for them to come home. I would imagine it depends on how long his fleet has been out to sea. Towards the end, he'll probably stay, if their early into it, chances are he'll catch up with them.

When my daughter graduated C School at Whidbey Island Washington she was flown to Japan a day later. Upon her arrival at Narita Airport in Tokyo she had to take a Train to Atsugi Naval Air Base. She had no clue where she was going but did have a number with her orders to contact the base when arriving. She was assigned barracks and then 4 days later the LT of her Squadron who was deployed with them in the Philipines flew back to the base and picked her and a couple other New Sailors up and flew them to the Phillipines and then they had to ride in some vehicle to the USS GW to meet up with her Squadron. She had hoped they were going to fly onto the Ship but did not happen. So could happen with your Sailor though if the Ship his Squadron is with is at Sea. That would be pretty cool though! Either way I am sure your Sailor will be placed with his Squadron wherever they are. My daughter told me that they do not split the Squadrons up leaving some behind, they all stay together, and new sailors are always brought in with them, one way or another. So hang in there!! Unless he is taking leave time after C school, he most likely will go directly to the ship. It is called "Needs of the Navy". PCS (permanent change of station) decisions are usually planned well in advance. Actually, he is prepared to join the fleet. Did he go from A school to C school? (ie, did he have fleet experience before C school?) Fleet personnel are very good at helping those acclimate who come aboard mid-deployment, so he'll do fine. Unless this ship is very close to the end of their operations cycle, he'll get to come on board in an exciting way (by a COD).

I've heard of both options, but many are flown out to the ship (get to ride the "Greyhound")....almost seems like the Navy has done this before and adjusts according to their needs. I've also heard of a lot of sailors that stay at base....all you can do is go with the flow and wait for his orders...
