Adopt a Sailor

Our daughters PIR date is 12/16, a couple of weeks ago she sent us a cover letter and form to " Adopt a Sailor " for the Thanksgiving holiday. She asked us to include one of her shipmates on the form " if we could make it ". We live about 6 or 7 hours from Camp Porter, so we made it happen.

They had liberty from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, the cover letter said to have them back at least a half hour early to allow time to check in and walk back to the ship. There wasn't much open being Thanksgiving Day which was fine. We took 2 laptops and cellphones and the girls spent a couple of hours catching up on Facebook etc...

I told them it was their day to do as they pleased, they really wanted to see the new Twilight movie. Fortunately there was a theater in the mall next to our hotel it was showing their movie and it was open. Afterwards we went for a drive around the local area. I was stationed at NTC Great Lakes ( main-side base ) from 1980 to 1983. WOW , has the area changed !

Speaking of changes, wait until you see your recruit. I've always been proud of my daughter, she's been everything a parent could hope for. I'm especially proud of her decision to join the Navy and I must say she looks great in that uniform.
