Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!
My son enlisted in October of last year. He was to report to Great Lakes, tomorrow, April 11th. There was an issue with his fingerprints and that finally got straightened out and he was told he could go anytime between now (that was in early March) and September. I have to tell you I was prepared for him to leave this week. My husband, former USN, said their motto is "Hurry up and wait!" I guess this is my learning to deal with the unknowns I will be dealing with once Ricky (Richard once he leaves he declared) goes to Boot Camp... UGH! I need prep time. He's telling me now, he may only get a weeks notice. He will be going A School at Goose Creek for Nukes. Will his Boot Camp depend on A School schedules? I'm so confused... Mentally, this is exhausting.
Thanks for your input!

Thanks James! I will check out the Nukes page and seek additional advice there, too.
The DEP site is a good place but since your son is going to be a nuke you may want to join the Navy Nukes page on this site. Their path is a bit different that most. Here is my experience with a nuke in DEP:

Long story short, there was a lot of challenges along the way but she made it through as do most. It's hard to believe it was only 2 some years ago I was in your shoes with all your concerns but now she is on a sub (underwater somewhere no message for over a month) standing reactor watches doing well. Your experience may be different :-). Your husband is correct, hurry up and wait but when it is time to go, it is time to go.
Also there is also facebook page bootcamp and another for you when he gets to GC with lots of information (sometimes too much information).
Good luck and best wishes.
