Great Lakes RTC area dining

The wife and I are going to the GLRTC on Thanksgiving day to "Adopt our Sailor" for the day.  Having not been there for 30 years I want to ask those who have been there recently about the area.  We pick him up mid morning, and I think he has to be back by 6pm.  What attractions are in the immediate are, ie, movie theaters? Malls? And of course food?  Being the holiday, I'm not sure what will be open besides Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans type dining.  Anything upscale you might recommend?  Thanks

  • Wow those are great ideas. We plan to let him choose what he wants to eat. I'll keep these and a few others in mind when I give him his options, he'll likely want seafood. Thanks for the tips.
  • I'm not sure if this is any use at all, but this is a link to a restaurant guide for Great Lakes....http://greatlakesil.usl.myareaguide.com/ypcyellow/restaurants.html

I don't think there are any reviews but all the addresses and phone numbers should be there
  • John,

Haven't been but several dads recommended the Charhouse. We found Jimmy's Charhouse in Libertyville on the web. I called a few evenings ago and the gentleman I spoke with was fantastic and very accommodating for Navy families. Menu looks reasonably priced.

FYI - Thanksgiving Dinner is $14.95 and includes pumpkin pie.

We may very well be adopting a few sailors as well for Thanksgiving. Asked my son to check around for any buddies whose family aren't able to make it to PIR. We've been very blessed.
  • Any tips on where the good food is w/o driving to Chicago?
