I cannot tell you how surprised we were - they will only be allowed email Sunday AM - the problem is he will write the emails and the letters will stop - he has written a few letters during the week after lights out and then sent them on Sunday.
He has his orders so he knows where he is going - he is undesignated so he will go to ship after some training at the Training Support Command at Great Lakes.
Is this access to email a new thing?

You are correct, he is on Ship 3 USS Hopper. I wonder if they give Ship 3 iPads as the Hopper is named after a Navy Admiral who helped develop programing languages. She paved the way to write programming languages that were more like english. Only two more Sundays before PIR so I am still sending letters nearly every day mainly to give him updates on the sports teams he follows. He is undesignated so he will stay for a week or two after PIR and then report to his ship.He got his second choice San Diego so we should be able to see him when not out to sea.
He likes the immediacy of it - he wanted updates on the NCAAs. He was excited to get his orders - does it violate OPSEC to mention the Ship he is assigned to?
Well, there are computers in the recreation area they can use. But they do cost. Charged by the minute. Most don't use them. But look at it this way, at least he's communicating with you.
