Phone calls?

My son has been at Boot camp since April 7th.  I had the initial phone call "I am here" and also received box of his personal belongings and form letter a few days later.  How long before they are able to write again or the possibility of a phone call home? Do they have to earn the right as a group to call home?

By policy, you are entitled to TWO calls...."I'm here" and "I'm a sailor".   In general you'll receive at least one more- BUT- all calls are earned and awarded by the RDC's.  The division can earn a call or can loose a call.....

Generally no letters until about week 3 or 4.....

  • Thank you!  I was excited when I received form letter with his address.  I will just continue to send him letters and cards so that he is receiving mail, keep my phone with me at all times, but not stress about when I will receive mail or a phone call, until closer to PIR with the I am a Sailor call.

  • I got one other call before the I am a sailor call.
  • He got my first letter on 7/30. I believe I mailed it on 7/20.

  • I believe phone calls are motivational meaning they can be won or lost as a division. To give you an idea, my son arrived on 7/7 and I got his first phone call on 7/30 and his first letter on 8/4
