My grandson Jon arrived at Ackland 1 week ago Monday after a tough time getting there due to airline problems. His PIR was July 31st.
I was discharged from the Navy in May of 1954, so for some reason I have it in my head there may have been some changes.
I could use some info as to what takes place there. I have not talked to Jon since he arrived in San Antonio but had had conversations with his Mother.
Do they have a graduation ceremony from "A" school?
How about Liberty, How many?
any info from all of you pros would be appreciated.
Thanx

After last talking with you I found a web sit listing the promotions to AM3 and on up except for chief, it appears that they promoted over 500 to MA3. Yhey did not list a number so I had to count them and with interuptions I might be off a few.
punch in navy active duty advancement,
then scroll down to: active duty advancement -navy personnelcommand.
you will get the latest advancements and when the next test period is.
Other on the MA page may be interested but I am not sure how to get it on the site.
Bob, my son graduates from his MA A school on the 21st of August. They do have a graduation ceremony and yes they get liberties. As long as they don't have any duty after the second or third week they will be able to earn liberty. My son was able to go into San Antonio a couple of the weekends he was on liberty. He was also allowed to have a cell phone so we were able to keep in touch a couple of times a week. Well good luck to your grandson, hope I answered your questions.. Alex Rodriguez
My son, Justin had his PIR at the end of May, then straight to MA school. He graduated in San Antonio on July 24. There was a graduation, but it was not formal...nothing like PIR. The MA rate is small. Justin's graduation had 41 sailors. Our family lives in Texas, so we visited him 3 different weekends then the whole family went to his graduation.
The school is tough, but the Navy works hard to make sure everyone gets through. They graduate with a lot of pride!
After graduation, they get 2 weeks leave. Justin's just ended and as I write this he is in the air on his way to Bahrain. He will spend 2 years there. He volunteered and is VERY excited as he is being considered for a mobile security team.
