My son was going to sign up for active duty a couple weeks ago. When he went to the recruiter's office to choose a job in the Navy they told him the Master at Arms job was available, but only as a reservist. Since MAA was what he really wanted, he signed up as a reservist. he doesn't leave for boot camp until October. Can he expect to be deployed often? He really wants to be deployed. The recruiter said that many times the MAA reservists call ups are voluntary. Will he have many opportunities to volunteer for deployment as an MAA reservist?

Seems to be a trend here. My son was set to go to basic Sept. 4 as a Seaman Apprentice, but three weeks before, he changed to Reservist so he could get the MA Rate. I was disappointed that he didn't go active duty, but still extremely proud for his service!
Thank you Ronald. I'd love to hear how it works out for your son.
my son joined the reserves as an MA. he will graduate bootcamp next week. I have heard the same..but can keep you advised .
