got form letter

Well I am sort of confused, our son made his I'm here call on 3/21 and we finally got his form letter today (3/29) verifying Ship 4 Div 813 with PIR 5/18. Not that it really matters, but, others who arrived the same day or the next day seem to have PIR the week before. Anyone have any insight on this? Like I said doesn't matter, our pride of in our son making the discussion he did is describable.. Mission First.. oh, and Fast Boats

  • Hi jde

My #4 son is also in Ship04 Div813.  This is my 2nd son to go throught this.  My #3 son has been on the teams for a couple of years now.  As far as letting people know what your son it trying to accomplish, in my experience is isn't a big deal.  There is a t-shirt store in Coranado that has all the names of each class graduate.  I know this because they checked the list before they would sell me the class hell week t-shirt.

The main reason you may not want to discuss this is the failure rate.  If for any reason our sons don't make it, then there is less explaining to do.

BTW - I think they are crazy.  When your son gets to BUD/S you will too.

    Good Luck!

  • I think it will all depend on how much of their conditioning they are able to maintain and carry into pre-BUD/S.  Looks like there will be around 264 (3 x 88) Sailors entering into the pre-BUD/S pipe in May.  They should be able to get two good BUD/S class out of them in June and July.  I'm sure both will have a mix from Divisions 811, 812, and 813.

  • It is pretty weird sometimes. My son got there on the 20th and is in 812. It will be interesting to see how BUD/S gets distributed....
  • Got our letter yesterday.  Son shipped 3/22. He is in Ship 04 Div 813 as well.  I've started a thread on the Bootcamp board to connect the families.

It appears that they will be trying to get several BUD/S classes up and going with the number of 800 divisions at the RTC.

  • I have been reminded by a coworker, assignments to ship and division probably fall into that SNS category... Secret Navy ummmmm Stuff..

  • Hi dad,

I got my form letter last night, too.  My son is Ship 4 Div 813 as well and the PIR date is 5/18.  I'm thrilled to finally have an address and date, but I am curious too how these are assigned.  If anyone can enlighten me I'd love to know more!  Like, how many in a ship? division?  Do the assignments have any significance or just in order of arrival etc?

  • My son actually arrivied on the night of 3/20 which is when I got my call and he ended up in Ship 04 Div 812. His PIR of 5/11 is a week earlier than I thought it would be. Sounds like we just filled the Div 812 out and they started 813 the next day. It is a little confusing.

  • yes, one that arrived on the same day and another that arrived the following day. Unless.... ok this may be the answer, as he started his DEP he went to a pvt Dr, when he got to MEPS the mil Dr dropped him for lack of his pvt Dr signature for the visit/clearance. He had to re DEP,  but because of his past DEP, new ASVAB score and PST scores he was given the first open slot they could swing. Thus 813, where the other Div's were already assigned. Morale of this story, if you know someone who is in DEP and sees a pvt Dr. be sure to get a very well written Dr note that states they are completely fit for duty. Give a copy to the recruiter and take a copy to MEPS.   Good luck to all our recruits and their families.

  • were the others in an 800 division?  if not, then your sons division had to wait until there were enough recruits to fill the division.....
