By the Book

Hello everyone -

I just want to say a few things about OCS rules and procedures, as I feel that we as supporters of our LOs in OCS training have an obligation to learn what these are so that we don't do anything to jeopardize or harm our LOs while they are in this special training program.

Please understand - I am definitely not an expert on what these rules are and I learn new things everyday as my LO goes through this rigorous training.  However, one thing I do know is that OCS rules are strict for a reason - it's all part of the training process.  As one proceeds through this training, then certain privileges are earned; if these privileges are somehow exercised before the set time, then discipline is sure to follow if OCS personnel become privy to any of these violations.  For instance, sending a package of food or some other type of item that is considered "contraband" to our LO can not only cause special discipline to our LO, but to their entire unit.

The site that I am posting this note to is called an "open" site, as just about anyone can read this message, though not anyone can post a message.  There are other sites similar to this, such as Navy for Moms, sites that can give out an incredible amount of useful information and help us learn what these rules are.  Some other sites, such as Facebook, can be very helpful too.  We believe these sites are private and restricted, but that may not always be the case.  I'm not a Facebook expert, by no means, and I think for the most part these sites are private, but I've heard of exceptions to this as well.

This is a very specialized, rigorous training program, and our LOs are most privileged to be a participant.  Our LOs are required to follow these rules and procedures by the book, so we too  should try to operate by the book.

Remember what they say - loose lips sink ships :-)

Take care......
