My son, Michael left for Newport Feb 19. He is in class 10-11. We recieved a phone call on the 20th and then an email earlier this week. We didn't get much information. Mike is a quiet guy and not a big communicator. Hoping to hear news from other parents of class members.

Thanks Tim. We got a call from Mike last night. He passed his big RLP inspection. He didn't have much to say. I think he was really tired. He's written us a few letters which we really appreciated getting. Who knew he was such a letter writer.
Our son (class 01-11) did not get many chances to communicate in the first several weeks. We learned to stay by the phone Sundays to get his calls. We are fortunate that he writes letters, which is one of the few kinds of communication allowed during the week. I think letter writing is unusual in his high-tech generation, plus they are very busy; even in their "free" time they have to study and prepare for inspections.
He did say he appreciated very much the volume of letters we had friends and family send, even though he was far too busy to reply to each one. Just do not consider them completely private, so do not send anything potentially embarassing.
In the final three weeks, he had nearly unlimited access to email and his cell phone. Something to look forward to :)
