OCS Class starting 2/8/15

I am new to this Navy thing and to this website.  I must say I was not as supportive as I should have been when he first brought up the idea of becoming a flight officer.  The only thing I know about the service is what I have seen on television.  But my son was determined and persevered and is now at his first day of OCS.  I am so proud of him.  Is there anyone else on this site involved with this class?  The videos were very helpful and I wish I had known about this site prior to his leaving.  Any tips or information for me to get through this period?  Thank you

  • Maura;

    As your son seems to have been in a class earlier perhaps you can answer a question for me? My daughter is at OCS and is about to enter her 6th week on Monday 6/29. Getting information about small details has been very difficult. She graduates on Saturday, August 15, 2015. We were told there is a banquet on Friday the night before.

    My questions are:

    1. What is the usual time for the graduation ceremony the next day on Saturday as we need to fly home by Saturday night.

    2. What can you tell me about the event on Friday Night?

    Thank you.

  • Congratulations to your son. I believe he may be in class 10-15. Be patient as the first week is settling in and passing initial PT (physical training requirements). You can find these requirements on the web at Airwarriors. If a SNA (Student Naval Aviator)does not pass a physical required element they are placed on hold for 2 weeks. No worry they are retested at a later time. Send letters and cards. If you send a package they must open it in front of their CO(Command Officer) in his office and ask for permission to review the contents. Sometimes this causes a bit of stress on the recruit. Be patient and send encouragement.
