Our son is in boot camp with a PIR of 08 Feb. He has an AIRR contract.
In a quick phone call he thought he would be staying at Great Lakes a while before
heading to Pensacola but was not firm about it. Is that the norm now - I know they have pre-BUD/S for the SWO and SWCC, do the AIRR's do that conditioning as well and if so how long?
We are ready to book flights, should we assume he will get weekend liberty if in fact he is not shipping out the Saturday following PIR ? The letters and calls from the 800 div. at boot camp are limited.
Appreciate any insight, thanks.

As of now, (PIR 5/31/13) there are 3 groups of graduates. Grad & Go, GL A schoolers, and THU. Rescue swimmers will be either Grad/Go or THU. THU (temporary hold) are those that graduate but have a paperwork issue that needs to be resolved(usually medical) before they ship to Pensacola. This could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. THU get liberty Fri, Sat, and Sun. G & G get liberty Fri, bus to the airport between 1am and 3am, and fly out at different times of the morning on Sat.
we have some stuff that says they stay in Great Lakes for a few weeks but I cannot confirm that right now....I believe that is that case but the final word would come form your sailor.....if he stays at Great Lakes he would have liberty Sat and Sun, unless he has watch duty, after he gets checked in....that takes about 4-5 hours after PIR
