My son graduates on October 7th from ET A school. Does anybody have any hotels / motels to recomend? My daughter & I are going down a few days early so any recomendations on what to do or see would be appreciated.

We have stayed at both the Quality Inn on Redbank in GC less than 10 minutes from base, and the Quality Inn in North Charleston which is a bit farther but in a different direction. Both nice, clean and reasonably priced.
Terry, do a ghost tour. always a winner.
Terry, two. First Fairfield Inn and Suites (Mariott) by the airport. About 15 miles from the base. Nice breakfast and Manager's reception for beer and cocktails from about 5-7 at no charge. about 115 per night
Second is Embassy Suites. A Hilton brand hotel Great location and walking distance from the things you might want to see in Charleston. Same breakfast, Manager's reception reception for beer and cocktails from about 5-7 at no charge. Really nice hotel, may be pricer,, 150 or so but you are paying for location, but if visiting probably worth it.
My son is graduating Power School that day so hopefully we have great weather.

I stayed in a motel just outside the front gate I think it was a days inn. It was not real fancy but it was clean and comfortable and had a Carl's Jr in the same parking lot so food was close by. When it came time to go on base it was a 5 minute drive
We like the Hampton Inn near Charleston Southern University. Very convenient to the base, but in a cleaner, newer area. Good BBQ next door, Deli down the street. Stayed there several times, never a problem.
The Charleston Museum, the aircraft carrier tour, the Hunley exhibit; all worthwhile and fun. Hominy Grill for an awesome breakfast near the historic area.
The Wingate by Wyndham hotel in North Charleston is very nice and almost a brand new hotel, and price includes the breakfast buffet for the whole family. It is about 10 minutes from the base. Taking a carriage tour of Market area is a good bet while you are down there. If your son is in uniform, Palmetto Carriage Tours gives him the carriage ride free of charge. Magnolia Plantation is worth seeing too you can easily spend the day there.
