My son is buying a new car, and we were wondering if it would save him some money to register it down there instead of at home.
Is he allowed to do that? Anybody know the fees and taxes on a new car? We are looking at $2200 in taxes and fees in Georgia for a new car that is only $18000.

This might be a little late, but if he is still a resident of GA (i.e. his LES says he pays state tax in GA) it is dirt cheap to register his car in SC. All he has to do is take his LES to the DMV with the rest of his required paperwork and show them. He won't have to pay the vehicle use tax or personal property tax or whatever it's called and his vehicle registration fee is next to nothing. The last time I renewed my registration before I left Charleston it cost me all of 3 bucks.
Looks like sales tax in Goose Creek is 8% not sure about motor vehicles. You may have to check with their DMV.
