PIR April 1 This Friday!

My wife and I are so excited to be heading to our son's PIR this week. We are looking forward to seeing our Sailor in his uniform and how he has changed over the last 8 weeks. I hope to meet others whose sons or daughters are also graduating.  Post to this discussion if you are going to be there to watch this PIR.  Thanks.

  • My son's PIR was 05/18/2012 and after what I witnessed I would have to say there will be no April Fools Jokes, just tears, admiration, pride, and class. I get emotional just thinking how I felt after not seeing him for 8 weeks and then those doors open and the groups of Sailors march in and you see him with such a serious / emotional look on his face and you just know he has become a better man ( a Sailor ) ! Enjoy the moment , it is one you will always remember.   GO NAVY ! ! !

  • RTC Facebook page has posted pictures of April 01 PIR.  You may be able to find your son/daughter in these photos.   http://ning.it/idAxjG
  • In that case, I believe I did see you and your wife, Randy.  I think we were just up the stands and to your right.  I was the guy with the camera around my neck, goatee and mustache.  I took photos of the Div. 116 honor grad with her family before the ceremony began.  I wish that I had recognized you and shook your hand.  Congratulations to your son as well.  Can you tell me where he is going to "A" school. Sam is at Nuke school in Goose Creek, SC.

  • Finally back home.  It's a long drive from Texas, but well worth the trip.  @Jim - FYI, RTC was "no foolin" this PIR.  Strictly by the book, and the ceremony was superb.  Small class this time, only 502 new sailors.  My son is settled in at Goose Creek now and already asking us to send care packages.

Randy, I'm sorry we didn't get to meet you and your son at PIR.  I was looking for you, but didn't see you.

  • Wow! I'm exhausted.  Here's a story. My son is grad and go so we were thinking we only had a few hours Friday afternoon to spend with him.  We did that, then he had to report for watch at 20:00, then he was bussed to Chicago Midway at 01:00 for his flight which should be taking off in about 20 minutes. (19:00) We were able to spend all day with him after picking him up at the USO and taking the train into downtown Chicago.  I will post some pictures in a few days.  We had a great time, walked all over downtown, got him back to the USO in plenty of time for his flight and dinner at the airport.  He is headed to Charleston, SC for Nuke school.

I met so many great American families, and I have never seen so many young men and women in one place standing up to make a difference by serving their country in the United States Navy.  HooYah, sailors. Bravo Zulu!

  • Here we are at Navy Lodge.  Just spent a whirlwind evening meeting lots of Navy moms and dads at IHOP and at the Ramada Inn "Meet and Greet".  I got to put a few faces with names and looking forward to PIR tomorrow morning.  HooYah Sailors!
  • Our son is Division 806, Ship 4 - we live in Illinois so it is a short trip for us.

Thanks, Steelroy.  Hope to see you there. What division is your son in?  My son is in 116.
  • We are driving up from oklahoma in the morning. Cant wait to see our new sailor. congrats to division 115 and to all the divisions who are graduating friday. and thank you very much for this website....

  • Jim, I'm sure it will be in good taste.  We have our winter coats back out after having mid-80's last Saturday here.  At least it's not looking like snow.

@Randy -  I hope my son didn't get the IT for that. We'll be on the same road tomorrow.  Maybe play some "hop-scotch" on the way to St. Louis.  Drive safely.
