Thank You For Our Messy Home
Dear Lord,
Thank you for this sink of dirty dishes; we have plenty of food to eat.
Thank you for this pile of dirty, stinky laundry; we have plenty of nice clothes to wear.
And I would like to thank you, Lord, for those unmade beds; they were so warm and comfortable last night. I know that many have no bed.
My thanks to you, Lord, for this bathroom, complete with all the splattered mess, soggy, grimy towels and the dirty lavatory; they are all so convenient.
Thank you for this finger-smudged refrigerator that needs defrosting so badly; it has served us faithfully for many years. It is full of cold drinks and enough leftovers for two or three meals.
Thank you, Lord, for this oven that absolutely must be cleaned today; it has baked so many things over the years.
The whole family is grateful for that tall grass that needs mowing and lawn that needs raking; we all enjoy the yard.
Thank you, Lord, even for that slamming screen door. My kids are healthy and able to run and play. Many children cannot.
Lord, the presence of all these chores awaiting me says You have richly blessed my family. I shall do them cheerfully and I shall do them gratefully.
Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings... Thank you, Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf.
Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible...Thank you, Lord, that I can see. Many are blind.
Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising...Thank you, Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.
Even though the first hour of my day is hectic with socks that are lost, toast that is burned, tempers that are short, and my children that are so loud...Thank you, Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely.
Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines and the menu is at times not balanced...Thank you, Lord, for the food we have. There are many who are hungry.
Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous...Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who are jobless.
Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest...Thank you, Lord, for life.
thanks fishdad! this young Man, Family, church, community is amazing.
quess what we are doing for valentine's day? Pork chop dinner for Nick! Son's of the American Legion said they'd host it in their hall, local groceries and meet markets are donating food, individuals are offer help and money, oh yeah, the local printing company is going all our posters, news adds ect. Free! I LOVE my small town living!
Post from Nick's mom, Sheila....Today was a rather "up and down" day. When we arrived this morning, the night nurse said he had a very restful night and got 5 - 6 hours of sleep. That is always a plus for him. But then as the morning went on, we started to hear that his blood oxygen levels were low, his heart rate was too fast and his infection is more concerning. By the time we left tonight, things were slowly improving and they're continuing his antibiotics in order to keep fighting the infection. They also did a CT of the stomach and chest. We should get those results in the morning. Nick continues to work on strengthening his lungs in order to get off of the vent. It's a very tough battle, but he's a tough guy and "making ground" on it. Tomorrow marks the 2 month anniversary of his injury. He's come a long way (thanks to The Almighty Father, thanks to all of your prayers, and thanks to his determination and will to live.) We are blessed.
last couple of days, sorry I'm really getting behind here, too busy
Post from Nick's mom, Sheila....Well, today turned out to be a better day than we expected. This morning went rather quickly and this afternoon the medical staff took Nick around the ICU block in his wheel chair. After that he pretty much passed out (from exhaustion, I think). He's been sleeping since around 3 p.m. and we're praying that the rest of his night will be restful as well. He continued with the lower settings on the vent today, and they were able to take him off of one of his antibiotics (now he's down to 4). I know it still sounds like a lot, but at least it's progress. We appreciate all of the continued prayers for his healing. It absolutely blows our mind to think of the thousands and thousands of people that are praying for our son all over the world, and we appreciate EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM. Thank you.
• Post from Nick's dad, Steve....Yesterday was a day that included surgery in the morning. It went good. The rest of the day included times of frustration, confusion and at times contentment. Nick`s wounds continue to heal well. He is still fighting infection but it is improving too. He is anxiuos to get going to the rehab. In his mind he feels fine (due to the pain meds) but in reality he still needs stronger breathing. It has been a challenge to keep him content but it is a blessing to have the chance to meet the challenge. Today is going to be rough too because he did not sleep at all last night. We are trudging forward. (Steve)
happy news!
Post from Nick's mom, Sheila.....Today was a good day for Nick. He took a rather lengthy ride in his wheelchair (followed by the parade of tecs which have to accomodate him with the vent, the wound vacs, the nurses, etc.) Have I mentioned that the medical staff here is wonderful . . . always willing to go the extra mile to help their patients feel better. I witnessed a somewhat funny situation tonight between Nick and his Dad. They had their first "disagreement" since Nick's injury. Nick has a fractured thumb on his left hand and is suppose to wear a removable splint on it at all times. We gave him a reprieve from it this afternoon so Steve told him he had to put it back on. Needless to say, Nick didn't agree. He says his arm feels fine and he doesn't need it. That's right . . . the splint was still not on when we left nick's room. He's still as bull headed as usual. Nick - 1, Dad - 0.
this is what I Love to hear!
Post from Nick's dad, Steve.....Another step forward today in Nick's recovery. The infection situation continues to improve. He is once again spending a considerable amount of time "breathing off the vent". (Its still hooked up but it is setup to simulate breathing on your own.) This is strengthening his lungs in preperation of taking the ventalator off. Wounds are healing good. He has been clearer the last couple days. His mood swings through the perdictable scale of sad to content. The content times outnumber the sad times. All is heading in a good direction. (Steve)
A Child's Request
This is a great poem.
A little boy the age of six
Come home from school one day
With tear filled eyes he told his mom
What he'd heard the teachers say
We can't have prayer in school no more
The teacher say's it's law
Please tell me why we can't pray mom
I don't understand at all
Some kids are saying God is dead
And Jesus isn't real
Mom all this talk confuses me
How am I suppose to feel
I know I'm just a little kid
But kids have questions too
So if there is no God mom
Then who made me and you
Who made all the trees mom
Who made the flowers to bloom
Who put the stars up in the sky
And hung the silver moon
Who made the gentle breeze to blow
Who made the deep blue sea
Who made all the mountains mom
Who made the air we breath
Why can't we pray in school no more
We use to every day
Our Bible teacher's there no more
They said she went away
All this just can't be right mom
They pushed God out the door
And if He can't be in school with me
I don't want to go no more
The mother lifted up her child
And held him to her breast
She gently wiped his tears away
Then answered his request
She said, yes son, there is a God
And Jesus is alive
He goes to school with you each day
He never leaves your side
And as you grow older son
You'll hear it more and more
It's not just schools, it's others too
That's pushed God out the door
Just keep your trust in God son
No matter what you hear
And when you want to talk to Him
You'll find He's always near
The one's that say there is no God
And Jesus isn't real
Will one day face their Master's son
Their fate will then be sealed.
I'm so grateful to hear and read these updates of Nick. He is in my prayers morning and night. His story is inspiring, whether he realizes it or not. I hope someday Nick will know just how much he has impacted my life and the lives of others. I think I'll write again just to let him know how much he has touched my life. Maybe I'll touch his.
