Thanks Navy Dads - Submariners

Today is my son's last day in the USN.  He performed his five year contract for submarines and decided that was enough for him.  I tried to convince him to stay in, as did his cousin and an uncle (both career Army).  He spent his time assigned to the USS Bremerton (SSN 698) stationed at Pearl Harbor.  He has completed two western Pacific deployments, numerous underways and a namesake port to Bremerton, WA.

I'm proud of what he has accomplished.  He wants to go to college and take a different route.  While I hope he is successful, I can't help but feel he was better off in the Navy.

Thanks to Navy Dads - this website has provided some great information and support, especially while my son was in basic and then sub school.  I'llprobably remain on for a little while longer...who knows, he may opt to go back in.

  • David thank your son for his service. Keep us posted on his civilian career. Maybe he might want to come back. Glad my son chose to stay in. He has shore duty now and misses the boats. He was about 2 1/2 months short of 5 years on one sub.
  • We'd be proud to have you continue as a member David--- it would be a great way to share your experience and knowledge and pay it forward by helping other Navy Dads! And you thank your sailor for his service my friend!
