Potential Theodore Roosevelt tiger cruise

My sailor informed me the other day that a potential exists for a tiger cruise on the Theodore Roosevelt on the final leg of their journey. Won't post dates etc here however after reading the other posts it seems as though i really wont be able to make any travel plans until ~ one month before ?

This wold be my first cruise and interested in connecting with those more experienced or anyone who may be lucky enough to be part of this event ( if it occurs of course )

Thank you

Paul   I would suggest that if you have not you should sign up with the Roosevelt Ombudsman group.  They are a great group they even give their phone numbers.  The latest Roosevelt news letter from the Captain said the Tiger Cruise is as of now unlikely.  As I write this I have all my toes and fingers crossed.  I got to go on the last tiger cruise and it was one of the coolest things I have ever done.  I very much want to do it again.  If you would like to talk to me about what I learned and experienced on that cruise please feel free to call me.  If I don't recognize the number I may not answer but if you leave me a short message I will call you back.

    Hi Paul

It will take some time but it is well worth it. My son is on a Destroyer and the experience is one that I will never forget

Good afternoon Paul. I'm Richard Holland in Texas. Went wih my son three times from Pearl to San Diego aboard the John C Stennis CVN74. I was 70 years old on the last cruise and a war ship is no place for an old man haha. If you can pull it off don't miss it. We had a great time. My Son now has 3 years shore duty at Pearl Harbor and its nice to visit him there also as we spent this Christmas with him.

As the time for your cruise grows near I would be glad to help as i'm kind of an old hand.

    Thanks  Richard Holland

  • I heard today that the Tiger Cruise on the Big Stick that was in doubt is back on.  Check with your sailor for details and schedules.  I wish I could go but I've already made plans to meet the ship in San Diego instead.

  • Thank you very much . The idea of a flexible ticket is a good one. I am a planner and i like to have things all set in advance. Sounds like this might not be the case here ...Again thanks

My only tiger cruise was on the Carl Vincent in June of 2011.  It was frustrating to wait until we got the alert that we were good to go (around 30 days before).  The reason they schedule the tiger cruise so late in the cycle is that DON'T really know for sure that far out.  You may want to consider buying a flexible ticket in case something changes at the last minute.

For me, this was a trip of a lifetime.  On the boat, it seems like you are constantly climbing or descending stairs.  On this cruise, the average age on the boat according to the captain was 18.5 years.  When you board the ship, they give you and ID with the location of where you are sleeping as well as other info.  Anyone who has been on a boat pretty well has every location figured out by the second or third day.  I learned a very valuable lesson on the first day, that the boat had 5,350 people that were all ready and anxious to lead me to where ever I needed to get to.

    Good luck and enjoy.

  • Thank you sir ...My sailor texted me over the weekend and said that they were asking sailors to find out if there was an interest. He put my name on the list. Not sure what that actually means but like you ..hoping. Might I ask where to find the Ombudsman group please/ I will take you up on your offer to talk as well and thanks
