Navy Dads

Recent discussion on the Stennis page has been concerning shipboard theft and gear adrift. While I sorely wish that we could just simply trust our shipmates. I have seen too many thefts. This is a concept that is drilled into us during boot camp. Sadly, it does not always stick, and people get hurt.

unfortunately the Navy mirrors society in general these days in many respects...that is why we preach to parents to consider carefully what they send to their deployed sailors......

I frankly am discusted by what I am learning. Ipods, PCs, cameras, flashlight and money. These kids should all have adequate money in their accounts to buy this stuff legally. They cannot spend much on board.

What gripes my ass is someone in my sons very small work group snagged the very nice flashlight I gave him for his first deployment. His workspace is locked and very few have a key to get in.

I do not buy into any excuse for this behavior. In the case of my sons $1000+ camera being stolen that is grand theft and a Felony on land. If the person is caught they need to go to Captains Mast and be discharged from the Navy. These kids know better.

My son is not lamenting the loss of his camera to my knowledge. Someone needed a camera and a flashlight more than he did.

On my last TC I looked at each Sailor with love and treated them as my own. No more. I will now look at these kids as potential criminals looking to steal from me and that sucks.
