  • Carl, Buck has battlestations tonight, so we should get our call tomorrow hopefully. We are driving from Ohio on Thursday morning, should be there around 3pm if all goes well. After we check in we have to meet my mother inlaw about an hour west of Waukegan and drive back. After all the driving, will probably crash awhile and go to the meet and greet for awhile. Hope to see you there. Tom
  • Hey Carl, hard to believe we're single digit midgets. Seems like forever ago that buck left for boot camp, and we only have 8 days and some change till PIR. Buck has battle stations on Thursday, when does Carl go. I could sense the relief in the letter we got today that the end is near. His spirits were high, and said to bring him some Easter candy, as he was thinking about it all day Sunday. Well, I hope the next week flies by as I am sure you are also. Hav a safe trip and maybe we will see you at one of the many meet-n-greets. Tom.
  • Carl, we booked rooms at the Ramada in Waukegan. We got a 3 queen family suite for 125.00 a night, and a 2 twin room was around 75.00. They have a complimentary shuttle to pir, gift for the new sailors, host a meet-n-greet for families on Thursday, and offer discounts on meals at their resteraunt. There are a lot of people talking about the Navy Lodge also. We picked the Ramada more for the shuttle service, so we didn't have to waite in traffic to get on base.
  • Hi Carl, Isee that your sons PIR is the same as my sons,4-24. My son is in div 823. I havn't seen many dads on here with the same pir, so I figured I would say hi. My wife is on N4MS, and they have close to 50 moms from the divisions graduating that day. If you want to know what'soing on, they share their letters, calls, and just about everything else.
  • hello Carl,

my son also left the same day for basic training.Do you know what ship name or ship number he is on and when he will be graduating they might be together I was wondering as they left the same day take care Gregg
  • Hello and welcome Carl. Sure glad to make your acquaintance. You have joined a group of wonderful knowledgeable people here. I am sure we all can make your trip through boot camp an informative one. Knowledge is strength and that is what you will gain while your son proceeds through boot camp. Please thank Carl for his service to this great country of ours and tell him we all support his journey.
  • Carl, Welcome Aboard! I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Carl for his service for me and thanks again for joining us.
    Sincerely, EG
  • Welcome to NavyDads Carl! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric is on the second half of a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat recently returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Carl this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Carl is doing!

As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your son is going through. Thanks to one of our members we have two excellent videos that you can access from the Video area on the NavyDads.com main page: New Bootcamp 1 of 2 and New Bootcamp 2 of 2. These videos will answer many of your questions and concerns and will give you a better understanding of how the United States Navy transforms our children into sailors!

Be sure to spend some time in the Bootcamp group- there are many questions and answers available to help you understand what your sailor is going through. And as PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul
