Describe A Little About Yourself (your IP address/location will be checked::
I am a married father of 3 children. My oldest, Jordan, has just entered boot camp. My family is a very tight knit group. As a father I have always ensured to make myself available to help my kids. This is my first time as a parent that my ability and readiness to always help is not needed. A few days into his journey I finally realize that what I'm feeling is in part, selfish. The anxiety I feel is super high but coming down. I know he's on a path that will benefit his life in ways I can't even fully imagine now. But in this initial phase I can't help buy worry about the big guy. I'm sure my thinking will shift, especially as I realize he's in good hands. Love and miss my future Sailor, but can't wait to see the man he becomes.

What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:
We fully supported his decision to enter into service. We felt he gave the decision a great amount of consideration and put the work in to prepare physically and mentally as best he could. Faced with the realization that my first born will be leaving us to begin his journey has been the hardest. As well as growing into a great young man, he has also become a great friend. I know he will do great things. I want the world for him to grow and achieve all his dreams. I just have to take a backseat for now and allow it to happen.

Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security Link OPSEC for some guidelines as to what we should not talk about in a public forum like NavyDads.
As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what Jordan is going through. In the Navy Bootcamp group is a discussion called A MUST READ for all New Navy Parents. Read through this post as it will do a lot to give you some understanding about what your sailor is learning and why. And be sure to check out the videos available in the Bootcamp Group as well and as PIR nears be sure to spend time in the PIR group for hints and helps! To better understand how the Navy creates sailors, watch these videos Navy Boot Camp Videos to see what life is like at Great Lakes RTC.
