  Tom, congrats on your son Collin!!  From what I have learn sometime class up can take sometime.  However, your son is enjoying every minute of it..well maybe not doing watch..jejeje.  Also Pensacola is a good place for "A" school.  My regards to you and your son.. Hooyah!

  When my son first enlisted in the Navy I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to his future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads but found out I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and hope this site will benefit Navy family's that follow behind me. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and learn about the Navy. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons decesion in joining the Navy.   Tom has your son taken the practice test at the recruiters yet? the books that Jim listed are probably the best that you can find to prepare you for the ASVAB test. My youngest son Ethan took a practice test at the recruiters office this afternoon and scored a 75 on it. he said he was nervous and uncomfortable. Ethan is wanting to be an MA and his recruiter told us this afternoon that he should have no problems getting into that job with that score. As far as the wait that all depends on "The needs of the NAVY" a term you and your son will get used to hearing in the upcoming years.Our recruiter told us that the Navy has a clean slate right now and are taking people in all job classifications but from what I have heard on here from other dads and moms I don't know that this is entirely true.

  Welcome to NavyDads Tom! I'm sure you'll NavyDads.com useful, educational and informative. Please explore the site and make some Navy friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start a few. I certainly have! If you have any comments, questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...be sure to post them! I'm sure someone here can answer your questions or concerns or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors in the family - my son Eric (AM3) is stationed on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat (MC3) just completed her five-year enlistment on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Tom this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and be sure to let us know how Collin is doing! We do ask that you remember that we talk about the Navy here and we must keep the security and safety of our sailors in mind at all times. On the right side of every NavyDads page is an area we call About This Site. Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security (OPSEC) link and the NavyDads Guidelines link.
  
  As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your son is going through. In the Navy Bootcamp group is a discussion called A MUST READ for all New Navy Parents. Take a few minutes to read through this post as it will do a lot to give you some understanding about what your sailor is learning and why. And be sure to check out the videos as they address many of your questions and concerns.
  
  As PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul

  Welcome to the NAVYDADS.COm website Tom. we may be a small community of dads and other family memebers but there is a lot of valuable information to be had on this site. feel free to get in and look around at the groups and find where your sons line of duty will be in a corresponding group.
  There are (on the right side of every page) the about this site listings. this is the best place to start finding out information about what you can and can'tsay about your sailor a far as OPSEC and the security of yours and our sailors. might I suggest you look into the DEP group as this will be where your son starts out at, then onto the bootcamp group. then as your sons P.I.R. tips and hints. Then onto your sons Line of work group then on to the fleet as your son progresses through the ranks.
  I hope that you find this site as helpful as I have and don't hesitate to ask questions of me or anyone else in the NAVYDADs family.
  I have a son that is 2 years into his first enlistment as an ET with a second son that went just this morning to the recruiters office to set the date for his ASVAB test.
  Thank Collin for looking at joining the United States Navy and his future enlistment for me, and congratulations to you for raising a son that is willing to serve this wonderful country so that we can have the freedoms that we enjoy. Bravo Zulu Tim
