The United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program (SFTI program), more popularly known as TOPGUN, is the modern-day evolution of the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School which was originally established on March 3, 1969 at the former Naval Air Station Miramar in California. The SFTI program carries out the same specialized fighter training as NFWS (Navy Fighter Weapons School) had from 1969 until 1996, when it was merged into the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center at NAS Fallon, Nevada.
Wow! And I thought I was the only one who's seen and enjoyed this movie many times over. It never gets old in my book it's timeless!... One of the things in the movie that struck me was seeing Fightertown USA and wondered if that's actually a real place.
I have my rituals in life and no doubt most of us do. Every Veteran's Day I try to watch "Saving Private Ryan". I've seen this so many times I've lost count. This is my all time favorite. I would take a bullet anytime for my country, my family and friends... I believe my son knows this and everyone in the house stirs clear of me when I'm watching. Like my wife told me a hundred times over I was meant to be in the military but God had other plans for me in life...
I swear I've seen it so many times I know 75% of the dialog!! I still love it...........
as an aside...I knew a ex F-4 Phantom driver...he loved it too and said it was expected that they were as arrogant as possible....said when you were flying that close to the edge it was the only way to handle the pressure.....
