Day 1 of new Navy career...

My son, Aaron left for Great Lakes this morning at 0-dark-hundred and is flying to O Hare as I type. He will arrive at RTC Great lakes nearly 25 years to the day after I did, in 1984. We live in Arizona, and the one thing I was able to assure him of, although much has changed since I was there, is that he WILL BE COLD! I happened upon this site after my wife discovered N4M's and we will post our experiences, thoughts, and questions here as our son progresses. After RTC, he will be headed down to Charleston, SC for Nuclear Power Training (again, following in his old man's footsteps!) and then on to the fleet. Not sure yet if he will decide to go subs or surface, but I was able to give him the pros and cons of each, having served on both. We are extremely proud of our son, and appreciate this group of supportive parents. We look forward to getting to know everyone here better as our son begins his Navy career. Jim, former MM1/SS (SSN-603, As-19, SSN-755)

  • It's an amazing journey Jim and you'll see it from both sides so to speak. There is a ton of info scattered around the site about bootcamp these days and what to expect...the two videos New Bootcamp 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 do a very good job to summerize the 9 weeks..............
