April 23, 2008 My son left for Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes, Ill one year ago today. Wow! what a first year. When Evan left for boot camp I found N4M's and was inspired to start NavyDads.com. Navy Dads launched June 18, 2008, two days before Evan's Navy Graduation. From there he attended A school in Pensacola, Fl for close to three months, then headed to the fleet to serve aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, CA as an ABE. When Evan arrived in S.D. the Reagan was already deployed overseas. Within two weeks of being there he was flown to meet the ship to finish out the cruise. He finished the remaining three months experiencing Bahrain, Dubai, Singapore, and Hawaii. He earned his sea legs! Now after months of cranking he has finally earned his spot on the flight deck. He will be leaving on another 5 to 6 month cruise in the near future where he will be working with the arresting gear on the roof. We have seen a lot of change and growth in his first year and hope each year is better than the last. So all in all, this first year has been a busy one for us both. He has truly seen the world and will see much more. He is growing into a man and is proud of his choice to serve his country. Now heading into year two, I wish him the best and I'm still proud of of my United States Sailor. HooYah! Go Navy! EG
