I Wanna Know More About Personnel Specialist Job

Hi. My son will have the rate Personnel Specialist and he will be still living for boot camp this late November. Does anyone out there know if this rate is good or not? i want to hear more from you. He scored good in ASVAB. When he had his classification, they gave him 3 choices of Jobs ,these are AD, SH And CS but then He ended up as Personnel Specialist. Can you give me some pieces of advice? And are there plenty room for advancement with this job? Thanks a LOT!

  • Good evening Tem and congratulations on your son's enlistment. I am new to this site, I am retired Navy (95) and more importantly have a daughter enlisting in March of 2009 (IS). To answer your question the rate (job) use to be called Personnel Man(PN) and now it is called Personnel Specialist. He will be doing work in the ships office taking care of records of all his ship mates, processing leave requests, entering shools that they have completed, advancement information. He will be doing computer entry with all this information. It is a good rate to be in since he will know all his shipmates quicker and make good friends as well. His working area or conditions at sea will be the ships office and that is a good place to be in since you get to meet alot of other rates quicker. I hope some of this has helped and if you need any further help that is what we are ALL here for, OUR SUPER KIDS....... Go Navy.... Gordon
  • I'm not sure if this is his rate or not: but this page describes duties for a PN rating CLICK HERE
