  • Your welcome Tem. Evan is doing good. His ship will port in Hawaii next and then on home back to San Diego. His cruise is finally coming to an end. He wanted in the legal field. Unfortuantly their were no jobs available in that area. He was anxious to enlist and didn't want to wait around hoping on an opening. So he decided to go in as an ABE working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. He plans to switch rates as soon as possible. He likes it though.

  • Tem thanks for the encouragement because I need it. Heather is my niece that my wife and I took in seven years ago. I did not have any kids of my own until Heather and her brother and sister came to live with us. Heather is the youngest and since she has only lived with us seven years I probably have protected her like a seven year old. I know in my heart that the Navy is the best thing for her but I do miss her and worry about her. I hope your son is doing good and maybe we will see our Sailors in the same PIR. Best wishes to your and your family.
  • Hey Tem, welcome to Navy Dads. My son is with the Delayed Entry Program. I am trying to get his braces off so that he can leave for the Navy. I will keep in touch and this is a great website. Take care and God Bless.

  • Tem,
Well, as an airdale I will proudly say aviation is the best choice. But that is a very biased if not skewed view of the navy. Aviation has very good advancement, however one thing the Navy can pride itself in is this. We reward those who demonstrate an articulate knowledge of thier rating judged by the Advancement exam. Secondly we advance the most motivated in the rating as seen by thier immediate chain of command based on thier eval and award points for the hard work they show. Based on that they get ranked, and advanced based upon our qouta for the year. PS and CS are very good rates, I tell my guys who join this: "Pick the job that you most see yourself doing for the next few years." And I have yet to see one come back disappointed that they didn't see a job they liked. Jet mechanic (AD), Administraitve Clerk(PS) or Cook(CS) one of them has got to interest him. As far as each one's advancementup to E-5 they are about the same. Performance is the key to success though. I hope that helps him decide, I hate to push someone in a direction they are not interested.
  • Tem thanks for joining. I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud navy dads just like myself. Thank your Son for his service for me. Good luck and thanks again for joining. EG
