My Grandfather served in the Navy during WWII and Korean War. My Dad was a Marine during the Korean War. Is there a database somewhere that is public for me to see which ship(s) my grandfather served on and which ships transported by Dad from San Diego to Korea (Japan)? Thanks for the help, Tony

  • Thanks. I will look to see if any papers exist. I have my Dad's enlistment paper though.
  • When I was trying to trace my father's "travels" during WWII I ran across this website: CLICK HERE. there is no place I've found that has an inclusive database that I've found. I also discovered than millions of military records were destroyed in a massive fire about 35 years ago and many records are no longer available. I would suggest spending some serious time on Google searching for unit numbers and anything like that. I had a copy of my dad's bronze star citation that listed his unit (593d motor ambulance company) and I started with that. Check each link that may come up and search by whatever reference you find. It can be frustrating but you may be very lucky and be able to find items you never knew. Good luck and good patience!
