My Son is now assigned to his ship and waiting on "Hard Copy" orders for C School.
Here is his Timeline from prev year and a few months(Bootcamp to Now).
- Bootcamp
- PIR
- Stationed in Great Lakes to wait for ATT School to start
- 2 Months Pass and they had enough ETs for ATT School to start
- Moved Ships (Barracks) to be in same building with all classmates
*ATT School is "Basic Electricity" School, reading Schematics, troubleshooting circuits etc.
* Don't recall how long this school was but I remember it being about 3 months
- Remained in Same Ship for "A" School
* Waited maybe 1 or 2 weeks for A School to start because most of the group passed ATT School. So They all moved on together to the new school.
* A School is about more detailed info and specif pieces of equipment.
- Graduated A School
* There was a small ceremony in a room about 40x20 with 60 parents/friends in the room. Where Sailors received their certificates and were recognized for outstanding GPAs etc.
* If your sailor is reserv. it seems this is the point where they get shipped back home (Don't know much about their process)
- Waited for Ship Selection/Assignments
* Waited about two weeks before got word on ship selection/assignments
*From what I hear this is a crap shoot: some classes only the top 10% get to pick their ship and the others are assigned through some random process. I have also heard of other full classes that were able to each select their ship. This selection is done in CLASS RANK ORDER! So make sure your sailor knows... if they want at least a chance in selecting what part of the world they will be spending most of their time in over the duration of their contact. Good Grades is the Key!
**Note Some Ship assignments will say XYZ Ship @ Norfolk w/ ET Job 9610 (RADAR AN/SPS-49A(V)) or it may just say XZY Ship @ Norfolk w/ ET Job as TBD
- Once Ship is selected then it is wait on Hard Copy Orders for Ship &/or C School.
This is where we are now. Sailors may be able to look at Navy Computer System daily and see their assignments before it is officially presented to them.
Hopefully that helps shed a little light on the early schooling process of ET Sailors.
