My son finishes boot camp... now what?

There is a lot of great info out there on this website!  Thanks for the brainiacs that got this ball rolling!!

So my son graduates boot camp... what happens next?  can someone with recent experience comment on a CURRENT timeline from ATT, to A school, to C school, to first assignment?  Looking for length of each of the above and current wait periods between each.  Also looking for a post of when the family can reasonably expect to see their loved one for their first leave period.  Thanks in advance for all that reply!!

  • My Son-in-law just started ET A-School. (Hooyah!) Here is how long it has taken him to get to this point:

    • 2 Weeks on hold after Boot to start ATT
    • 11 Weeks in ATT
    • 1 Week on hold after ATT to start A-school
    • And now he is expecting 19 weeks of ET A-school

He has been told that these times are 'typical' but I have nothing other than hearsay to back that up. He is getting 2 weeks of leave at Christmas; that is for sure! And I assume that he will get more leave after C-school before his first assignment but that is still down the road.

I hope this is helpful for everyone entering or anticipating ET school in the near future.

  • Congratulations on your sons graduation, my sons ATT started about 2 days after Boot camp and lasted about 4 months, with just a few days between ATT and A school. A school I think was about 8 months, he was on hold a little over 2 months after A school and his C school was a month long. He was able to come home for 2 weeks after C school and then had to report immediately to his ship, hope this helps.
