I know, I know. I don't write the date in military format.
Ok, my son entered training at GL on 7/11. He is still in indoc and will be doing ATT and AECF for FC rate. They told him to get comfortable at GL that he and all the other FCs would be there for at least a year and a half. This was way beyond what we were originally told. What has changed?
Also, he was told by instructors that parents could no longer be Liberty buddies, but then at a Liberty briefing yesterday this topic was not mentioned at all.
Could someone please shed a little more light on all of this? He ate RTC for breakfast and came out as an E-3. He seems happy as a clam except for the thought of not getting to see home in such a long time. We were taking comfort in the idea that on weekends when he did not have watch or duty that I could fly up and visit with him, but now it sounds like parents are no longer able to sign them off base.
Any ideas?

Thank you PO. At this point, Michael hasgraduated ATT school and was on hold (received a Best of the Best Commendation I might add!). He classed up this last Monday to A school, first test tomorrow.
He has duty during one of the days of the Thanksgiving weekend, but not on TG proper. I will be coming up then and staying at NL. He is in phase 3 liberty now and will be taking care of permissions on his end.

Alrighty, I can shed light on both these topics. For those of you who do not know me, I am the Leading Petty Officer (LPO) for FC 'A' School.
As to the length of time your son is going to be here, It all comes down to the availability of orders out in the fleet. Students finish school here and are being put on hold until 'C' school orders come available. The problem with that is that instead of filling every available seat in the 'C' school classes, they are only filling enough seats to cover the number of fleet billets available.
As to the liberty policy. Your son can fill out a special request to allow for parents to be liberty buddies. As long as you two are planning ahead, there should not be a problem with you coming to visit on his non-duty weekends.
Awesome Hannah, I will mention you to him. I know it's a big base, but it's also a small world. :)
I talked to him yesterday and he had just gotten back from buying clothes. He had asked me to send him some civvies from the house but I told him there was no way. He left here a size 36 waist. When I saw him after PIR, he was easily a 30. Right now he is a 28. Poor fella, he's missing his dad's cooking. LOL

My son graduated from boot camp 08/6/10. He graduated from (A)school 5/6/1. He just got orders 2 weeks ago and he for CWIS. 177 days, Dam Neck VA. What is really strange is that everyone in his class and many others also got orders for CWIS.
Anyway, he is coming home today on Leave for 10 days. A Sailor used to be able to take leave for 15 days between (A)school graduation and (C)school. However the rules have changed and it is now 10 days.
Thank you so much for your help. It means a lot to me that you took the time to answer. My son is Michael Larwa, he's pretty gregarious and I KNOW that the base is huge but he is one of those people that if you met, you would remember.
At this point he has now found out all of the information you shared with me :) I just wasn't patient enough to wait for him to find out. LOL.
He just made it to Liberty Phase 2 this week and he had 2 whiskeys and a beer to celebrate. He used to weigh 210 lbs, now he weighs 165. He slept well, LOL. They literally ran his butt off in RTC.
I'm so proud of all of you for serving our country. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you are doing.
