  • Ok, I will do my best to answer Toma Pickett. First, your son "might" be on hold for 3 months. Basically, I believe they will begin ATT (Apprentice Technical Training) as soon as the class has enough enrollees stacked up. You have to pass ATT to continue on to FC A School. In FC A School, every single test goes into a score. They rank every sailor in your son's A school, based on their score. They will have a sheet of C school spots available. Each student gets to pick a spot, in order of their class rank. The higher the rank, the greater the number of choices. FC A School grads basically split into Aegis FC and non-Aegis FC slots. Non-Aegis work closer with CWIS and other guns. Aegis work with the Aegis computer network, from Network Technicians to Spy to several other NEC's. Administrator is something that happens after you've actually been in the Fleet for a while. To answer your question:  attending A School is dependent on passing ATT. Your choice of position (C School) is dependent on your rank in A School. Hope this helps.

  • My son just graduated boot camp and is now on hold for 3 months until A school starts.  I am seeing 3 different FC categories, FC - Fire Control Administrator, FC - Fire Control Operator, FC - Fire Control Technician.  Are these choices or dependent upon something?  Looking for info, Thanks!

  • My son will be graduating from A school on May 26.  Very proud of him.  He doesn't have his orders yet for C school, but he is anxious to know where he will be going.

  • My FC3 has been Deployed since October looking forward to seeing him again.
  • My Sailor had PIR on 6/7/13 and is now waiting for the class to fill up; as I understand it.

  • I know they have a heavy deployment schedule for 2013. Has he connected with his sponsor yet? They may be flying him out to meet the ship. We went to Oahu in March to visit --- not a bad place to be stationed ...at least while they are in port!

While in port - if he is still an E4 they will provide housing in the barracks on base. Once he Is
E5 he has to move out but the BAH is nice in HI if you get a roommate.

They do have a good Facebook page, especially when deployed.

Our son has recently moved to a new ship in SaN Diego - they are out for their maiden deployment.
  • Mary, my son is due to report to the Chung Hoon in June.

  • Nope, guns are in Dam Neck, VA. (VA beach area). And our FC just left the Chung Hoon in November. When is your son due to report ?
  • I looked around on the net. Looks like mk45 A School is in Great Lakes.

  • My son will be going to C school for the Mk 45 (I might have that wrong) gun weapons system (the 5 inch gun).  His permanent orders are for the USS Chung-Hoon based in HI.  Can anyone tell me which VA location he would be going to for the school? I think it is Dahlgren.

New to GL ATT school as of 7/15/11

I know, I know.  I don't write the date in military format.  Ok, my son entered training at GL on 7/11.  He is still in indoc and will be doing ATT and AECF for FC rate.  They told him to get comfortable at GL that he and all the other FCs would be there for at least a year and a half.   This was way beyond what we were originally told.   What has changed?   Also, he was told by instructors that parents could no longer be Liberty buddies, but then at a Liberty briefing yesterday this topic was…

Aegis Ashore

Administration eyes land-based SPY By Philip Ewing - Staff writerPosted : Monday Oct 25, 2010 5:37:47 EDT As the surface Navy continues to gear up for its new mission of defending Europe against ballistic missiles, which begins next year, fleet bosses think they have a good handle on what ships and crews will need to accomplish to be ready. But cruisers and destroyers won’t have the only Aegis systems watching the skies for long. The next step in the Obama administration’s plan to defend…

Class Up Update as of 5/24/10

Just some info I requested that I'm passing on. Since there were so many questions on how long it is taking to class up I ask for an update so I could post it for everyone. Here it is.The current wait to get into ATT is 1-3 days. They do have to do all the check-in paperwork and attend base indoc prior though and I'm not sure how long that lasts. I can't see it lasting more than a week. Wait to get into 'A' school from ATT is about 3 weeks at the moment. There is no wait going back over to ATT…
