  • K Bay is in such a beautiful area....my son stationed there for a few years.  He never mentioned the food issue but he survived. All the sailors I know...stationed in Hawaii or going to sea will pick shore duty by a total landslide.

  • How do I figure out what OCS class number my son is in? Started Oct 18th - Newport Rhode Island. Heard rumor they might take general photos of the class as they progress for viewing?
  • Thanks Paul. I m staying at the Navy Lodge. I have to pick up some hats while there!!!
  • You can shop there with your sailor and I believe if yu stay at the Navy Lodge you get a pass to the NEX

  • Does anyone know if families can shop at the Navy Exchange while at Great Lakes for graduation?

  • After "A" school, most Aircrew Survival Equipmentmen are assigned to squadrons, aircraft carriers or other Navy ships carrying aircraft, or Naval Air Stations. There they learn more advanced skills in their rating through on the job  training. PRs going to intermediate level maintenance for their first assignment will attend a four week “A” school strand following basic core “A” school. Advanced technical and operational training is also available in this rating during later stages of career development. During a 20 year period in the Navy, PRs spend about 50 percent of their time assigned to fleet units and 50 percent to shore stations.

  • The duties performed by PRs include: inspecting, maintaining and repairing survival equipment, flight gear and protective clothing (anti-gravity suits etc.); using, adjusting, maintaining and repairing sewing machines; inspecting and testing oxygen regulators, liquid oxygen converters and safety equipment; repairing, packing and rigging parachutes; equipping and packing life rafts; manufacturing various types of fabric work and webbing assemblies used in survival equipment.

    In other words no

  • My son is in his first week on great lakes his rate is PR does anyone know if he will have to go to jump school also?
  • It is customary to send the CO a formal invitation to one's retirement ceremony.  Hope this helps: http://www.goatlocker.org/retire/cporetire.htm

Oath of Enlistment

Greetings! I'm new to this group. My background is Army. Lots of questions today: My daughter just returned from MEPS and is awaiting the selection of her MOS (or whatever the Navy equivalent of an MOS is). She asked my the other day if I would administer the oath of enlistment. Wow! What an honor she has bestowed on me! I have done this many times for other enlisted personnel, but since I have been discharged, I really don't know if this is permissible. For what it's worth, although I have my…

My grand daughter going to Oklahoma.

Hi everyone,   My grand daughter has two weeks of AM A School left at Pensacola.  She says she has orders to VQ-3 at Tinker Air Force Base.  She will be working on the E-6B Mercury. Does anyone have any input on this Squadron, base, or area.   I have been through Oklahoma City several times but never spent any time there.   Join the Navy and see Oklahoma... Dennis
