SHIP 2 DIV 912 PIR 2/11/2011

My son is in SHIP 2 DIV 912, he arrived at RTC on 12/8/2010, with a PIR date of February 11 2011.

Thought I would start this and see if anyone else has a recruit in that division or with the same PIR date.  We live about 2 hours from the base so at the very least I could keep up updated on the weather.

  • Fred, Battle Stations as I understand it amounts to a kind of hands on final exam.  This link and the videos on it can explain it better than I can: http://www.navydads.com/forum/topics/battle-stations-21-1
  • What's involved in Battle Stations? I was Air Force but my grandson is in Div 812,

  • We got a letter from my son yesterday, sounds like everything is going well.  He got marksman at live fire training, he thinks he missed sharpshooter be only a few points, he blamed that on the Beretta being lighter than what he was used to.  It's good to see he was paying attention all those years, shooting well is great but a good excuse is essential.  Hell week wasn't too bad, just busy.  The gas chamber wasn't bad, it made his eyes sting was about it.

He liked working at the PIR last Friday, opening doors for officers.  Got a "good job" from one of them, he said that sort of thing didn't happen too much.  Looking forward to doing it again today.

At his PIR on the 11th he won't be opening doors, he got moved back to being a stick (this time explaining to his inquisitive father that a stick carries a flag) carrying a "S" flag I believe is what he said.

He would like us to bring his cell phone and MP3 player to his PIR and while on liberty he would like to drop them in a locker at O'Hare.

We're getting close here, very excited, it should be a loooong week!

  • Yes it was great to his face.  Second that on the weather, we're just an easy two hour drive from the base so storm or not we will be there but for the sake of all those flying in, I'm praying form good weather.
  • I didn't realize there was a RTC facebook page.  Oh the world we live in.  Fun to see my son's face after so many weeks.  Looking forward to PIR, just pray there aren't any bad storms to keep us from getting in.
  •

No problem Dana, I check the RTC page pretty much daily, what a shock it was to see the 912 Division flag in the photo of the day.

My son was so much looking forward to live fire training.  He had me help him learn to field strip my Beretta 92 months ago.

How great it must be to be so excited about what you're doing.

  • Thanks for the div 912 photo post.  I think I found my son in amongst all the young men.  Received a short letter yesterday.  They had live fire that day (shooting guns) and he described all the shots they had to take with the 9mm and 12ga.  At the end he said  "It....was... awesome!"

Two weeks to go.  Good luck to all the future sailors.
