  • My daughter is an MA. She has been in Naples Italy for about a year an a half of her 3 year assignment. Today is her 2 year anniversary in the Navy! Still not sure what she will be doing after she is done there. She will have about 18 months left on her enlistment when she is due to transfer out of Naples. She wants to stay overseas or go out to sea. She may have to extend for 6 months to be able to do that though. I was in the Navy myself many moons ago. The people I knew that were stationed in Diego Garcia absolutely loved it. I think they got a little bored since it is pretty isolated, but they all described it as paradise!  May daughter is hoping to be back in Colorado for the Holidays this year. She was home last summer for a few weeks which was really nice! Hope you enjoyed your trip to Greece! Good luck to you son!

  • New to this discussion.

My son is an MA in his second year of enlistment.  He is currently finishing his first duty station in Souda Bay Crete, Greece.  We flew to see him last September after about 10 months and he should be back in Colorado for a few weeks very soon. After a short break he will be off to Diego Garcia in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

I hope that all your Colorado sailors are safe and prospering.

  • My son is currently somewhere under the water in a Sub.  We have had a couple of very short emails from him since he left.  Looking forward to when he returns as we are able to Skype with him once a week.

  • Ya, he will somehow get leave before he completes 12 months overseas but not Christmas, and after that who knows. He will then be in the Middle East for one more year. I was wondering if any Colorado sailors are doing their duty back in the US now.

  • Hi Dale, my son was home over Thanksgiving, hadn't seen him for 356 days before that.  He is back in Italy and will be there another couple years.  Your son still in the Middle East?

  • Wow! It's been since March since any comments. Are your Colorado MA's still deployed? Hope things are well.

  • He went through Aircrew, classed up in RSS and injured his foot on day 2 and got sent to medical and rolled back. Eventually he ended up switching to MA which is fine because he has a degree in Criminal Justice. The whole thing has taken a lot of time. Middle East.

  • Tracey, last name is Marshall.  Yes, he chose to extend a year.  Time off is great!  He had this past Christmas off, was able to attend Midnight Mass at the Vatican, once in a lifetime experience.

  • Howdy Barry.

  • Rich, what is your sons last name? They just had a big section swap a few weeks ago that shook things up. But my daughter just went to days.... which she is very happy about!  If you son got distinguished and chose to extend his enlistment for a year, than he will get that promotion to E4.... it took about 8 months for my daughter to get it. Fortunately they counted that 8 months as time in grade, which is why she is able to test for E5 just a short time after being promoted to E4. I understand why they don't love their jobs...and the 15 hour shifts...but they really have great days off.
