looking for ideas

Hello Everyone!

I don't know if this is the right group for this question, so forgive me if I lost.  My son Will is going to be off to Boot Camp after he graduates high school.  Here is my problem.  With his 18th birthday, Christmas and HS graduation all coming up, I need ideas for gifts to give to someone about to leave for the Navy.  He will not be needing a lot of "things",  but these are very special occasions, and we want to give him something special.  Anyone out there have any good ideas for gifts for the young man about to enter the Navy?

Thanks so much!

Steve

  • ...Perhaps an engraved Challenge Coin to begin his journey....Then you can add to the collection as he progresses. Many of us have gotten hooked on them!!!

  • A watch is good. My son wound up buying one at the NEX at RTC. They are not allowed phones and they always need to know what time it is. Also, a little extra cash in their account couldn't hurt. Although they seem to have everything, once at A school, they tend to buy what they need. My son bought a TV for his room, a laptop and he just bought himself a nice camera at the NEX. He was getting tired of cellphone pics. He told us he wants quality photos to remember his NAVY experience. Although they seem to have all the clothes they need, they will but more clothes. My son has his car down in Pensacola as well now, so there's insurance and gas money.

  • Thank you very much Jim!  A watch is a wonderful idea.  I will see what the internet has to offer.

Steve, the best thing is a new watch. He literally could go to boot camp naked and they would give him everything he needs. Time and time again our new sailors need/want a good watch to go with them to the fleet. There are many out there, but here is but one example of a fine watch:

I just Googled "Navy Watches" and came up with a lot of choices.
